Southern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital (SKY) is committed to superior patient care, medical excellence and responsive case management. The 60-bed hospital offers a comprehensive range of inpatient programs to help people overcome or adapt to the effects of physical and/or neurological illness or injury such as:
- Brain Injury
- Neuromuscular Disorders
- Cardio-Pulmonary Disorders
- Orthopedic Injuries
- Pulmonary Rehab
- Spinal Cord Injuries
SKY’s team of rehabilitation specialists focus on achieving return to the highest level of mobility. Interdisciplinary team members include physiatrists (physicians who specialize in rehabilitation), rehab nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists, recreational therapists, clinical social workers, respiratory therapists, nutritionists and case managers. Additional healthcare professionals practicing in a variety of specialty areas are available when needed.
Following a comprehensive admission evaluation, rehab team members work with each patient to develop individual goals and an individualized plan of care. Patients will receive a minimum of 3 hours of therapy at least 5 days per week from identified therapists directed at reaching those goals. A daily schedule of therapy is developed and followed. Plans of care are reviewed and revised at least weekly. Therapy is available 7 days a week including all holidays.
Family support and involvement are an important part of the rehabilitation process. Participation may involve family education and discharge meetings, family conferences, home environment assessments and community re-entry programs. The hospital offers training and education to help family members and caregivers understand and cope with a patient’s illness and/or resulting limitations.
Rehabilitation is one part of a continuum of care. Pre-admission assessments, admission and treatment, and discharge planning are designed to assist each patient with a smooth transition to and from treatment at SKY.
Therapeutic Aquatics Program
The therapeutic pool at SKY is available by physician’s order. It is technically equipped for ease, safety and comfort, and provides hydrotherapy to help improve range of motion, ease pain and discomfort, enhance balance, mobility, coordination, and muscle strength, promote relaxation, and reduce pain-related stress.
